Man United & Arsenal sponsorship link

Believe it or not, but Manchester United and Arsenal have been linked in an unexpected way.  Fans of both clubs know that the teams are bitter rivals, but until a few weeks ago the two were actually connected via sponsorship by

In August, Manchester United were signed to a deal with where the company will serve as a shirt sponsor.  Yes, the same bwin that is Real Madrid’s shirt sponsor and has sponsored several other football clubs and leagues.

You may be asking yourself how this links Arsenal to Man United.  Last year Arsenal signed a deal with online betting site Betsson that saw the company serve as Arsenal’s online betting partner.  In addition to taking bets for Arsenal home games, they also set up, a betting site dedicated to Arsenal.

At present, Betsson resides on the Ongame Network, which is home to some of the oldest online gambling sites in the world. is the flagship of the Ongame Network.  Until just recently the network was owned by  Simply put, for several weeks Arsenal and Manchester United were both sponsored by bwin.

That of course has changed as the Ongame Network was recently sold to the Amaya Gaming Group.  Bwin viewed the Ongame Network as a surplus asset and decided to get rid of it.  This will not affect Arsenal’s deal with Betsson as the companies will operate “business as usual.”

While the connection no longer exists, it is still strange that both squads were sponsored by bwin. Most fans were not even aware that such a connection exists as Betsson was a subsidiary company of bwin.  The good thing is the sale of Ongame put everything back into balance.  Now both teams can continue their rivalry and fans can root for Arsenal to prove to bwin that they are now backing the inferior squad.
